Germany remained largest machinery exporter in 2009

Germany remained the world’s leading exporter of wood processing machinery last year despite a sharp 40.8% fall in exports to €1.434bn. Italy took second place, posting a similar 43.9% drop in deliveries to €824m. Exports from other key countries that make wood processing machinery also suffered a noticeable decline. These countries included China (€428m; -25.3%), Taiwan (€305m, -35.9%), Austria (€269m; -29.8%), Canada (€257m; -10.6%) and the US (€230m; -24.1%). On a global scale, wood processing machinery exports tumbled 37.3% to €4.922bn.
